Imagine my disappointment from the grainy image produced through the s-video input on my new TW56X81. I was using the same s-video cable from my previous rptv. To test, I played a DVD through my SD9100 player using the component, composite, and s-video connections. The component and composite looked fantastic, but the s-video looked the same as my Dish Network s-video, grainy; so it was a definite s-video problem on the 56X81.
To make a long story short, I tried one of those fancy s-video cables in place of the one I had been using with my old rptv, and it CLEARED UP! I don't understand it, and don't care to either. Why my proven s-video cable would not give a clear picture is a mystery. A bigger mystery isd that my Dish Networks compostie out is still a better picture that its' s-video. This was the exact opposite with my previous rptv. IMO, something is not quite right with the Toshibas s-video inputs.
Below is a pic and link to the source of the 6' cable that did the trick.
