Setting up Speed Dial on the Grandstream 1620 & 1630

There are two "lists" that these 1600 series can store frequently dialed numbers

* Speed Dial (single press buttons)

* Contact List (phonebook)

First ; the Speed Dial Buttons

The Speed Dial function will dial IP addresses or PBX exchange numbers with a single button push.

The 1610 and 1620 are limited to just one Speed Dial button; but the 1630 has 10 !

 To set up a Speed Dial button, you will need these two things:

* your phones IP address

* a computer connected to your mesh node

Run your browser, and enter your phones IP address into the URL section, press enter.

You should arrive at this page, located on your Grandstream phone:

type in admin for both fields

on the next page, click on Settings, and then Programmable Keys

On the 1620 model, there are two total configurable keys; on the 1630 there are 11.

For the 1620, reconfigure the second Line button for Speed Dial. Note: there are two Speed Dial selections in the drop down (arrow) list... choose the third one down from the top

 NOTE: newer Grandstream firmware may require you to select "Speed Dial with Active Acct." as the button mode in order for this to work.

for the model 1630; configure Line 2 and 3 as Speed Dial, along with MPK1 thru 8:

NOTE: newer Grandstream firmware may require you to select "Speed Dial with Active Acct." as the button mode in order for this to work.

then over to the right of that, enter in a Description (name) and Value; the value would be the IP address or PBX exchange number of the Mesh VoIP phone you want to assign to this Speed Dial button.

For IP address calls, start the IP address with *47, and use stars for the decimals. An IP address of
10.197.238.235 would be entered as:

*4710*197*238*235

Or, for PBX calls... simply enter the PBX exchange number.

When done, click on Save and Apply

Note: the 1630 model allows for multiple Speed Dial entries (up to 10), but the 1620 only allows for one. On either model, the very first programmable button (of the group of buttons to the left of the display) needs to stay configured as "Line" .

Again, you can manually dial any and all IP addresses via the Menu procedure mentioned in the other page.

Second; the Contact List

you can also make PBX exchange & IP address calls via the phonebook (Contact List).

Thanks to Moe AB8XA for this procedure to allow IP addresses into the Contact list (remember, this is already permitted for the Speed Dial buttons), you need to go into the phones setup menu (procedure described above), and change a setting. Go into:

Note: this Contact List Method shown below - of dialing IP addresses from the Contact List - is still being perfected. It may not work reliably (but both the Manual dial and Speed Dial functions will work regardless)

Settings - Call Features - Bypass Dial Plan Check (change from No to Yes)

click on Save and Apply

With the Dial Plan Check bypassed, you can make either type of call (IP address or PBX number) from the phones Contact List (phonebook). PBX exchange numbers are entered exactly. IP addresses are entered in as mentioned above...

NOTE: this may only work of you have a line configured & connected to a SIP/PBX

10.197.238.235 would be entered as:

*4710*197*238*235
