Grandstream 1600 Series VoIP Phones


 Direct replacements for the BasicTalk ATA and seperate phone. The 1600 series are a telephone with ATA all built into one device. There is no need to run this phone through a SIP server or PBX exchange (though they are capable of being configured for these "exchange" type of systems); out of the box they will make and receive IP address dialed calls.

 

Summary:

GXP1600 series (specifically the 1630)

* Phone and ATA adapter, all in one package

* works out of box, no config or firmware reflash needed to function on mesh

* makes and receives IP addressed calls

* can be configured to work on PBX/SIP servers (the IP address functionality still works when config'd for pbx/sip)

* has a two port ethernet switch built-in, connect your computer, IP cam, OR whatever into the phones second port.

 

 

Although all of the 16x0 models will work well on Mesh, I recommend the GXP1630 model for client/tactical nodes; and the GXV3240 for station/command locations.

* From the bottom, plug in the power cord and one end of an ethernet cable into the LAN port:
but do not have the other end of the ethernet cable connected yet.

 

* Connect the handset cable and place the receiver on-hook (in the cradle)

* Allow the phone to power up and finish it's POST

 

* When the screen reports "Network Down" plug the free end of the Ethernet cable into an active mesh node.

* Wait a few seconds and look at the top left of the phones screen… until an ethernet-jack icon appears:

 

*Press the NextScr button twice, you should see the IP address that was just assigned….

* Write this IP address down, and press the phones HOME key:

 

YOU ARE DONE !!!

 

As it sits, this phone will receive IP calls, and dial IP calls… with nothing need be done to the Mesh node.

Granted, you may still want to go into the nodes Setup screen and reserve the assigned IP and publish the phones existence; but it is not mandatory that you do so.

 

Summary: for the GXP1600 series to be able to make & receive IP dialed Mesh calls, all they need is for the supporting Mesh node to
issue it an IP address, nothing more is required.

 

To make an IP addressed call:

*Press the Menu button (center button of the circular navigation array)

*Arrow down until you see "Direct IP Call", press the Menu button again

* Enter the IP address (example:)

10*45*101*212

*Press "OK" and the phone will dial the number.

 

To redial a number of a previously dialed call:

* if it was the last call you dialed, press the REDIAL button underneath the display

* if it wasn't the very last call you dialed, press the MENU button, arrow up/dn to

"Call History" and press MENU (center button of the circular navigation array) again.

Find "Dialed", press the center button, then arrow up/dn to find the desired number, then press the SEND key to dial out.

 

Name your Phone for the Caller ID that's sent out:

* With your phone connected to your Mesh node...

* access the phones "back door" Settings & Config menu by typing in the phones IP address into your browser.

* enter admin into the name and password fields

* at the next screen, click near the top on "Accounts"

* Click on Acct 1, then "General"

* Near the bottom of this screen, type in your caller ID info near the bottom of the page:

* then at the bottom, click on "Save & Apply"

* after about 15 seconds, you are done.

* close your browser window

 The Grandstream GXP1600 models can be purchased new on Amazon for under $60;

and used on eBay for $30-$35.

 

as a bonus, the Grandstream 1600 series contain a 2 port ethernet switch. One is labeled LAN and this is the port you would connect to your Mesh node. The second port is labeled "PC" and you can plug your computer in here and gain access to your Mesh node. You can access Mesh and conduct a VoIP Mesh call simultaneously.

 

Operating the 1600 series off of external power

These 1600 series come with a power cube that outputs 5vdc. I know Em-Comms like everything to be able to run off 12vdc. Well, there is a cable that will power the phone off of a USB port:
